After getting independence, our country was regarded as the largest democratic nation in the world.

History of Indian Independence Day
It was almost two hundred years that Britishers ruled over our country.  It made people suffer a lot due to their brutal treatment given by the British officials. Men, women and children were treated like slaves. This pain and suffering were slowly igniting the hearts of the leaders to raise the voice against them and free the nation from their cruel rule. With this burning desire in their heart, and a determination to make the nation democratic, a revolt was raised against Britishers.

There was not a single leader who fought against the Britishers to free India from slavery. It was the collective effort of several freedom fighters to realize their mission for the betterment of all the citizens of the country. Some of these notable leaders were Mahatma Gandhi, Subhash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh and Jawahar Lal Nehru. The strategy of these leaders were different. Some of them opted for non-violence while others believed in violence to achieve the goal.

On the day of Indian Independence, the entire nation echoes with a proud and festive feeling in the unity and diversity of the people.

The day honors the independence of India from the rule of UK on 15th August 1947. The Parliament of UK passed the regulation “Indian Independence Act 1947” by transferring their long held legislative dominion to the Constituent Assembly of India. Our country still retained the King George VI as state head till its transition to complete republican constitution.

India got its independence not just with a single event but with several noteworthy events that displayed the heroic deeds of our Indian leaders and freedom fighters. One of the most noted events were the” Independence Movement” that was renowned for civil disobedience and non-violent resistance executed by the INC or Indian National Congress. Independence overlapped with the division of India, where the British India got partitioned on the basis of religion into the territories of Pakistan and India.

This partition was executed by mass casualties and violent riots. It resulted in the displacement of around fifteen million people throughout the country due to religious bloodshed. Activities that takes place on the Independence Day
Though 15 August is declared as a national holiday, all the Indian citizens celebrate it with great zeal and joy. A grand celebration is organized every year at Rajpath, New Delhi. It starts with the flag hosting by the Prime Minister followed by national anthem. A salute through twenty-one guns and showering of flowers through helicopter to the national flag is an act that kindles the spirit freedom inside every person.

On this day, flag hosting is performed in schools, society and offices followed by singing of national anthem.
