Introduction

Mangalyaan 2 is also called as Mars Orbiter Mission 2. It is country’s 2nd interplanetary mission that was planned to be launched to Mars planet by the ISRO or “Indian Space Research Organization” in the year 2022 to 2023.

250 Words Essay on Mangalyaan2

After the success of the first MOM “Mars Orbiter Mission” i.e., Mangalyaan 1, the ISRO “Indian Space Research Organization” began to make plans to launch nation’s 2nd interplanetary mission “Mom-2”. This mission was developed to discover the red Mars planet. Post achieving success in inserting Mars Orbiter Mission in the orbit of Mars planet, ISRO then publicly announced its intention behind launching a 2nd mission to the orbit of Mars. This happened on October 28, 2014 in Bangalore at the Engineers Conclave conference. The proposed vehicle for the campaign is “GSLV Mk III” that flew for the 1st time on June 5, 2017. before the MOM II mission, the “GSLV Mk III” launched Chandrayaan-II in 2019.

In 2016, France and India mutually signed a “letter of intent” for CNES and ISRO to build MOM II by the year 2020. However, by 2018, France withdrew its participation from this mission. The government of India funded MOM II in 2017 budget. The scientists participating in the ISRO meeting discussed whether conducting an orbiter, rover or lander would be the best mission or to choose an orbiter with some sophisticated instruments than the ones flown on MOM.

500 Words Essay on Mangalyaan2

The scientists are working in close association on experiments that are planned for 2nd probe to Mars. The chief of ISRO A.S. Kiran Kumar announced that the 2nd expedition to Mars is set in 2020. It will benefit from the house brains trust of ISRO and the talent of Indian scientists all across the institutions who will be contributing to this project in the form of offering excellence in the manufacture and design of instruments.

In the Opportunity of Announcement, ISRO announced that this new mission on Mars provides a very important opportunity to discover planetary evolutionary procedures, whether and whether life will arise in the solar space. Mangalyaan 2 is also a great mission to perform a play between biological and geological history.  This new mission would address questions pertaining to such fields.  The 2nd probe MoM 2 would comprise of an orbiter, a rover and a lander. Where the lander would focus on subsurface and surface probing, the task of orbiters will be to study the surface and sub-surface of Mars and act as a communication connection to Earth.

The mission of Mangalyaan2 is to build the technologies needed for planning, designing, managing and operating an interplanetary mission. “MOM” will discover the entire space of Mars features with the mineralogy, topography, morphology, and the atmosphere by using native scientific instruments. This mission will study the elements of atmosphere on Mars that includes carbon dioxide, and methane, the atmosphere dynamics, impact of sun and wind, and radiation. This mission also observes moon on Mars, and evaluate the asteroids that are seen at the time of the “Mars Transfer Trajectory”.

The mission of Mangalyaan 2 would employ various techniques such as navigation-guidance-control abilities, autonomy and deep-space communications at the spacecraft. The MOM specifically searches for traces of gases like methane on Mars. It would result in discovery of all the likelihoods of survival of human life on this red planet.

The 5 major instruments that this mission would be used are Methane Sensor for planet Mars, Lyman-Alpha Photometer, Thermal Infrared Rays Imaging Spectrometer, Exospheric Neutral Composition Analyzer on Mars, and Color Camera. All the navigation and command tasks will be were executed by the “ISRO Telemetry”, Command and Tracking Network. Two Way Travelling Amplifiers and coherent transponders used for ensuring communication within the Deep Space Network.

This Opportunity of Announcement addressed Indian institutions that are presently engaged in the studies of planetary exploration and development of science instruments mainly for space.  The orbiter mission facilitates scientific community for addressing the open science issues. The main evaluator of this proposal has to perform below tasks:

  • offer essential instrument details that can examine the scientific issues, and
  • bring together the complete team of instruments and lead it for developing a space competent instrument.
  • The payload capacity of the planned satellite for Mangalyaan 2 mission is likely to range between 100W and 100kg. Though, final values have to be tuned on the basis of the last configuration.  The Mars orbit’s apoarion is projected to be close to 5000 km.
